Children grow up fast. Don't let another moment go by before planning a trip just for them. A day at the Portland Children's Museum is a day where they can play, discover and create in a safe place created especially for them.

Where else can your kids jump into a Dig Pit to play with big trucks and scoop "dirt" while staying clean and safe? In our Water Works exhibit, children can splish and splash around, move water on a conveyer and play in a 12-foot waterfall. At stage left, budding actors and musicians enter the Play It Again Theater complete with a ticket booth, costumes and a sound board where kids can press the "banana peel" sound effect over and over…and over.

Portland Children's Museum Visit the Clay Studio and The Garage where creations take form and become priceless family artifacts. Around the corner, classrooms of the Opal Public Charter School and the Museum School Preschool & Kindergarten put the Museum at the forefront of exploring how children learn and embrace the mission of the Museum: to inspire imagination, creativity and the wonder of learning in children and adults by inviting moments of shared discovery.

  • Portland Children's Museum is unique because we honor the child and create the playing field for them. We don't assume we know how they will interact with the environments we create; we let them decide.
  • Our Center for Children's Learning is all about studying how children learn, play and interact in their surroundings. The Museum is constantly working on how to integrate what we find out with what we offer our families.
  • Through the Community Partners Program, we fund programs that reach out to communities who face economic, social or physical boundaries challenges.
    • We take our popular studio art programs and deliver workshops in schools that aren't able to spend time with us at the Museum.
    • We offer qualifying groups and families discounts through our Community Partners Program so they can participate in programs and experience the wonder of the Museum.
  • Traveling exhibits bring popular characters and education programs to life. Some of the traveling exhibits we've hosted in the recent past are Arthur's World, Bob the Builder, The Adventures of Clifford the Big Red Dog and currently Kangaroo Crossing.
