KBOO is a community radio station that gives a voice to those communities without a voice in Portland, the Pacific Northwest and globally. KBOO airs public affairs that can not be heard on any other radio station in Portland focusing on local, national and international issues from politics to health to gardening to art to bikes to food. Our musical programming is just as diverse with genres ranging from punk to reggae to bluegrass to electronica to ambient noise. We feature programs in Yiddish, Farsi, Italian, Dutch and Spanish. KBOO keeps Portland weird.
As Portland’s DIY radio station, we are unafraid to eschew trends, broadcast the unusual and controversial, and we will teach You how to do it too. We provide much-needed broadcast access to (especially local) creatives and activists. Our studios connect diverse communities, facilitating greater cultural and political understanding by a continuous cross-pollination of ideas. Always locally oriented, KBOO also aids many local non-profits in Portland and the state of Oregon.
