Help For Daddy
Did you know that approximately 2.5 million people get divorced each year? According to the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), nearly 75% of all child custody awards are made to the mother. Only about 10% of child custody awards are made to fathers and the rest involve some sort of joint custody arrangement. According to the Census Bureau, parents who owe child support are more likely to pay the ordered child support if they either share custody of, or have visitation rights with, their children. Recent Census Bureau child custody statistics also indicate that nearly 40 percent of all non-custodial fathers have no access to or visitation rights with their children.
Help For Daddy is the first organization of its kind that understands the challenges faced by divorced fathers as they begin their journey of raising their children independently. The difficulty of finding resources for basic necessities such as housing, food, and healthcare, often while paying child support payments, can be overwhelming. A divorced father may not know where to turn, and experience a sense of desperation that, at times, can lead to him being an absent father in his children's lives. It doesn't have to be like that.
The fallout from fatherless homes in the United States has reached alarming levels and statistically we can see the harm it is causing our nation's children:
- 5 times more likely to commit suicide
- 32 times more likely to run away
- 20 times more likely to have behavioral disorders
- 14 times more likely to commit rape
- 9 times more likely to drop out of high school
- 20 times more likely to end up in prison
Help For Daddy is dedicated to ensuring that divorced and separated fathers remain an equal and significant part of their children's lives, by providing assistance with items needed everyday, enabling them to maintain a good, healthy, and safe home for their family. They provide furniture, toys, clothes, books, and all the essentials a father needs so that he is able to spend his own resources and limited time on, and with, his children.
Through Help For Daddy, divorced fathers can contact Help For Daddy's Resource Center, that assists not only in those first difficult days with getting them the items they need to get back on their feet, but is designed to take them all the way through to thriving as a actively involved father to their children!
