“My client, who had recently been homeless, moved into independent housing with few financial resources to help her furnish her apartment. Thanks to you she can successfully be added to the list of people who have made the transition from the streets to permanent independent living. We could not do it without your help.” Jolene, Case Worker.
Community Warehouse partners with over 100 social service agencies, hospitals, schools and elderly care centers in Portland, Oregon to provide basic household necessities for their clients to set up a home. There is simply no other resource for clients and case workers to obtain the very basics they need.
This one thing - having a home to go to, eating a meal at a table, having a bed to sleep in - has been proven to benefit a person's health and stability in all areas of their life. It keeps them out of hospitals, off government programs and into a job. In essence, when you support the Community Warehouse you support 100 other non-profits in their work. Community Warehouse is the 4th largest furniture bank in the United States, serving over 6,000 individuals and families a year. 84% of them are women as head of households, typically with two children. There is no other non- profit in the metro area that provides this service.
“Thank you for all the stuff you provided. We love our new home and my son has a bed to sleep on, and he loves it!" Martha S., Client
Community Warehouse was chosen to receive the 2010 Ethics in Business Award. We are honored to be the only non-profit in Portland to receive this award!
