Empowering Latino families to become self-sufficient, Centro also promotes a sense of belonging, encourages civic participation and promotes appreciation of other cultures through education and job training. Founded in 1972 by migrant farm workers, Centro Cultural is the sentinel of the ideals and legacy of a place to gather, find opportunities and celebrate cultural traditions. Our mission is to promote education and economic development, as well as increase cultural consciousness and understanding among the diverse groups of our community.
Centro Cultural is a One Stop educational center. It enables people to navigate the new system adopted in a new land; promotes a sense of belonging and civic participation, teaching adults: computer technology, English as a Second Language, Citizenship, GED, Driver's education, elementary and secondary school, seminars to develop a variety of personal skills and information and referral. In fiscal year 2009-2010, 932 adults participated in an educational program, 1,563 children were cared for while parents were in class, and 10,688 individuals received support finding a resource to meet their need in the Metro area.
