Black Women in Sport Foundation
Black Women in Sport Foundation (BWSF) is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to increasing the involvement of girls and women in sports and fitness, with a particular emphasis on black women, minority women and women in underserved rural and urban areas. Our approach focuses on increasing sports participation among young women and girls and includes advocating for and seeking ways to improve opportunities for women and girls in coaching and administration.
We provide after school programs, mentorship and summer camps that expose young girls and boys between the ages of eight and sixteen to various sports, including, tennis, lacrosse, soccer, fencing, and golf. Our program participants attend sports clinics led by program mentors who use BWSF produced educational materials to introduce them to various sports both on the field and in a classroom setting. Our programs also facilitate networking and professional development opportunities for our program mentors. While working for our programs, mentors have the opportunity to interface and share life experiences in sport with sports educators, college students and community leaders. We also organize conferences and forums to inspire, educate, and retain women of color in the business of sport, and we offer scholarships to women who play sports and desire to pursue higher education.
